3D Printing Filament Weight Calculator
Planning a 3D printing project and wondering how much material you'll need? Our Filament Weight Calculator estimates the exact weight, length, and cost of filament required for your prints, helping you plan spool purchases and budget accurately.
The calculator works with all common 3D printing materials — PLA, ABS, PETG, TPU, Nylon, and resin. Each material has a different density, and the tool automatically applies the correct conversion factor. Enter your print volume in cubic centimeters (found in your slicer software), select your material, and choose your filament diameter.
Weight is calculated simply as volume × density. Length calculation accounts for the filament's cylindrical shape — thinner 1.75mm filament stretches further per gram than 2.85mm filament. Most slicer software will give you a weight estimate directly, so you can use that as input here.
Cost estimates help you compare materials — premium filaments like carbon fiber reinforced nylon cost more per gram than basic PLA, but may require less material for equivalent strength. Always add a 10-20% buffer to account for purge lines, brims, and failed print attempts.
